happy new year! I hope everyone had a great holiday break. this weather is insane - we were bundled up with many layers one day, and then playing outside with no coats 4 days later. that's new england! check out pictures below of us playing outside!
we haven't posted in a few weeks, so we have a lot to catch you up on. the week before christmas was filled with a lot of fun activities. THe students did such a great job performing the polar express at both barnes and noble and during the town meeting. Thank you again to Kerri mcmahon and melissa oliver for your help.
the random acts of classroom kindness that We performed were so much fun! Some examples of our acts were cleaning the cafeteria after lunch, gifting classroom teachers a class set of sharpened pencils, secretly cleaning the fouth grade desks while they were at recess, and reading Christmas stories to the kindergarten. The teachers were so happy and appreciative and the class loved when they figured out it was us! ; here is an update on math written by addison:
Guess what, parents? WE are taking mad minute tests in multiplication. They are called multiplication sweets. everytime we pass a table, we get to color and glue pieces to make an ice cream cone. so far we have taken the tests for the two and three tables. there are 21 problems and you can't get more than 4 wrong. we take these tests every tuesday and thursday. if we pass we move on to the next table, if we don't we take it again. they are so much fun!
here is an update on social studies by keira:
in writing we have been learning how to compare and contrast, so in social studies, we are comparing and contrasting things that happened long ago to things that are happening today. mrs. elefsiades printed venn diagrammed and we compared and contrasted subjects like inventions, transportation, and the lives and schooling of children. there are so many differences. one difference is long ago, kids of all ages were in one classroom, today, kids that are the same age are in the same class. also, houses were only one room! We are learning about past and present verbs too!
here is an update about reading by hasmik:
We are working on our reading stamina. so far, our highest is 21 minutes. Wow! but we can go higher! we also learned how to choose books for our book bins. we have two non fiction books and two fiction books that are our levels and our library books too. mrs. elefsiades took a video of us reading, it looks like a mannequin challenge!
also in writing we are doing research projects on an animal that we chose. we are learning about their habitats, diets, and physical characteristics. we are using our chromebooks and organizing our facts in envelopes.
On friday, we began working with our reading buddies. WE buddied up with miss paolino's kindergarten class. we are looking forward to doing reading and math activities together. the first day we did a fun activity in which we interviewed our reading buddies to see how much we have in common. next week we will compare and contrast ourselves! Check out some reading buddy pictures below!
